Our Vision
Our vision is to connect black girls across the globe. We share common experiences, and as black women, we often face discrimination in our travels. Being connected to a community of black women means you don’t have to journey alone.
We aim to create a safe space for black women, providing resources, tools, and expert advice about travel from fellow black travelers and industry experts. Whether you’re traveling solo or on one of our specially immersive Soulful trips, you can feel secure knowing you can connect with a black girl who loves adventure anywhere in the world.
There is safety in sisterhood.

Our Founder
My story
Hello, my name is Danai. In my early thirties, I faced an unexpected hurdle when I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. This life-altering experience tested every part of my being—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
I got through it after enduring grueling treatments and surgeries. My journey with cancer sparked a profound shift in my perspective on life and the importance of living it to the fullest. As a single mom of three, I continue to navigate parenting and life changes, all while dealing with the aftereffects and challenges that cancer brings.
Interestingly, my name originates from Zimbabwe, my country of birth, and it means "to bring together in love." Despite the immense pain, my faith in God carried me through that season, reminding me that He had a purpose and plan for my life and that He would level every mountain before me (Isaiah 45:1).
The first time after completing all my treatment, I decided I needed to take a solo trip to Turkey. I felt lost and alone after a really difficult year, and I needed a reset—a space to think, retreat, and go within. I happened to mention my upcoming plans to a black girl from my church who I hardly knew by the way ,we have a thing of oversharing when we meet our sisters. To my surprise, she said, "This is a monumental moment in your life, and I am coming with you." Her niece also decided to join us.
Three strangers on a trip to Turkey had such a profound impact on each other, and it will be a trip I will remember forever. I felt so inspired by these two women. We had such a beautiful time together, from daring to take my first jump into the sea to getting lost in the Turkish markets after hopping on a local bus. The most beautiful part was that I didn’t have to do it alone.
A deep sense of purpose was ignited in me as we sat on the rooftop of our cozy hotel overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. I said, "I want to start a community where black women can connect and go on adventures together, and I will call it Black Girls Travel."
I was in a place of despair, isolated, and near the door of death. Travel became a modality that helped me feel alive again.
This initiative serves as a metaphor for the black girl on her life journey—embracing both physical adventures and the inward journey of growth and self-discovery, all while being part of a supportive community.
